Cricket enthusiasts in Vizag are caught in a whirlwind of excitement as tickets for the highly anticipated T20 clash between India and Australia were snapped up within hours of their release. The eagerly awaited event is slated for November 23 at the YSR ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium.
Ticket sales kicked off on Friday morning at designated venues, including the cricket stadium ‘B’ ground in PM Palem, the Indira Priyadarshini municipal stadium in I Town, and Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium in Gajuwaka. Demand surged, leading to a swift sellout, with around 6,000 tickets being made available.
The frenzy led to remarkable scenes, including a woman collapsing from the heat at the IGMS premises after waiting for hours. S.R. Gopinath Reddy, the secretary of the Andhra Cricket Association, personally supervised the ticketing process, ensuring separate counters for men and women at various locations.
Expressing gratitude, District Collector Mallikarjuna acknowledged the city police for maintaining order during the ticket sale. In response to the overwhelming demand, organizers pledged to offer additional tickets at the counters on Saturday. Ticket prices ranged from ₹600 to ₹3,500.
For online ticket purchasers, redemption counters are operational at the IPM stadium in I Town and the RGI stadium in Gajuwaka until November 22. Offline ticket redemption is available at the counter in Stadium ‘B’ ground in PM Palem until November 23.
The scenes at ticket counters were reminiscent of a blockbuster World Cup campaign for the Indian team, with fans, particularly youth and college students, forming long queues at venues. Ticket prices, ranging from ₹600 to ₹6,000, witnessed brisk sales, overseen by ACA Secretary S.R. Gopinath Reddy.
Despite the overwhelming response on Friday, organizers have announced the resumption of offline ticket sales on Saturday. Security measures and traffic arrangements have been diligently planned as Police Commissioner A. Ravi Shankar ensures a smooth experience for fans attending the T20 clash featuring India and Australia scheduled for November 23 in Visakhapatnam.
