Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua was crowned Miss Universe 2023 at the 72nd Miss Universe competition held in El Salvador on November 19, 2023. R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss Universe 2022, bestowed the honour upon her during the grand event at the Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador. Palacios, the first Nicaraguan woman to win the prestigious title, sparkled in an embellished gown as she accepted the crown amid applause from the audience.
The competition also saw Anntonia Porsild from Thailand as the first runner-up and Moraya Wilson from Australia as the second runner-up. The emotional moment of Palacios’ victory left her with tears of joy.
In addition to the intense competition, the 72nd Miss Universe pageant, featuring an all-female team, stood out for its hosts. Former Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and TV personality Jeannie Mai led the event, with Maria Menounos joining them. The pageant, which commenced at 6:30 AM IST on November 19, showcased contestants from 84 countries and territories, including debutant Pakistan. India was represented by Shweta Sharda, who secured a spot in the top 20 finalists. The captivating event marked a memorable milestone in the history of Miss Universe.
